The Seri Wawasan Bridge, also known as Jambatan Seri Wawasan, is a prominent cable-stayed bridge located in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s federal administrative center. Completed in 2003, the bridge serves as a vital connection between Precinct 2, housing main government buildings, and the residential areas of Precincts 8 and 9, spanning the man-made Putrajaya Lake.

Design and Architecture
The bridge’s design is notable for its futuristic and aesthetic appeal, resembling a sailing ship. This effect is achieved through a forward-inclined pylon and a network of stay cables arranged in a fan-like pattern. The main structural elements include:

Pylon: A 96-meter-high inverted-Y shaped concrete and steel structure inclined at a 75-degree angle.

Main Span: Measuring 165 meters, supported by 30 pairs of forward stay cables anchored to the pylon and the bridge deck’s outer edges.

Back Stays and Tie-Backs: To balance the forward stays, 21 pairs of back stay cables and structural steel tie-backs are utilized, creating a crisscross pattern that enhances the bridge’s visual appeal.

Functionality
The bridge accommodates dual three-lane carriageways, each 18.6 meters wide, including:
Three 3.5-meter-wide lanes
0.5-meter hard shoulders
0.5-meter marginal strips
Additionally, a 4-meter-wide median and a 5.1-meter-wide walkway and cycle track are provided, resulting in a total width of 37.2 meters at the bridge’s center.

Cultural and Aesthetic Significance
Beyond its functional role, the Seri Wawasan Bridge stands as an architectural landmark in Putrajaya. At night, it is illuminated with dynamic, changeable lighting, further enhancing its resemblance to a sailing vessel and contributing to the city’s modern aesthetic
